History
The first Horse Show we have references was held on 1907, in which the winner was the French rider Mr. Larregain, riding “Almenzor”. Since then the development of the Madrid Horse Jumping Event organized by Club de Campo was only influenced by the history of our country and the world evolution of the equestrian sport, failing in very few occasions to the annual meeting.

The first editions took place in the installations that Club de Campo had in Paseo de la Castellana, but finally the Show was located in the new installations, built between river Manzanares and Casa de Campo. These facilities, that were improved according to the requests of the equestrian sport of that moment, withsolidated the Madrid Horse Jumping Event, and made it a reference for the best riders of the world. Before the Spanish Civil War, 47 editions were held, in which the names of the best Spanish and European riders were inscribed as winners of the Grand Prix.

Height Jumping World Wide Record

After an interval of four years (1936-1939) the Madrid Horse Show lived the great growth and development of the Show Jumping all over the world; the glorious forthties and fifthties in which our riders, leaded by Francisco Goyoaga, were the winners of most of the competitions of the main Horse Jumping Event. Those “Golden Years” for the Spanish equestrian sport and the victory one year before of Paco Goyoaga in Paris in the first World Championship, gave to Club de Campo the opportunity to host and organize the main Horse Jumping Event held since then, the World Show Jumping Championship, that took place in 1954. This Championship was a great progress in the sport objectives for the Madrid Horse Show, because for this event were built the actual tribunes, Jury Cabin and Honor Stand, the stables were renewed and the entrances were rebuilt, in order to give the “Green Arena” the present appearance. Since then, it is withsidered as one of the most emblematic and permanent arena in the world.

From the historical Show of 1954, the Madrid Horse Jumping Show passed across several incidents, some positive and some negative, but nobody feels indifferent having the occasion of competing in this excellent arena. Everybody, including riders, owners, chefs d’equipe, trainers and amateurs wait anxiously until the calendar reaches the last days of May to turn the attention to Club de Campo Villa de Madrid and see who has been the privileged to write his name in the list of the winners of the most traditional, loved and admired Horse Show of the International Circuit.
