Canterbury LHC
Canterbury Ladies Hockey Club was reformed after the war in 1971. From very modest beginnings of a borrowed pitch and a wooden hut the Club has thrived and progressed to being one of the foremost clubs in the Country. Indeed, a centre of sporting excellence with coaches of national standing providing coaching for all levels.
Canterbury's rise of strength is founded on an inspired decision way back in 1978 to purchase a completely derelict piece of land just outside the City Centre known as Polo Farm. By 1987 Canterbury became only the second private club in the Country to lay a floodlit artificial surface and with such a demand a second waterbased pitch was laid in 1993.
With tremendous effort by a few stalwart members the Polo Farm Sports Club has grown to one of the largest clubs in the Country with another artificial pitch laid in 2006.
Having the 2012 London Olympics in mind all avenues are being explored to possibly use Polo Farm as a training camp for one of the competing Nations.
The Ladies Club fields 5 senior teams within the National, Regional and County divisions as well as a thriving Junior section which sees hundred's of boys and girls at the Mini's training on Sundays.
This is the third venture into European Club Competition for the 1st XI within the last 4 years, having previously won silver at both the 2004 European Cup Winners Cup & 2006 European Club Championships.

Old Alexandra Hockey Club
Old Alexandra Hockey Club was founded in 1892 with the club's first match being played on St. Patrick's Day 1893. Originally membership was restricted to students and past pupils of the Dublin school, Alexandra College. Thankfully this restriction no longer applies and membership is open to all. The club now has in excess of 150 members and fields six teams in competitive league action each Saturday throughout the season.
Old Alexandra has contributed greatly to Irish hockey since its formation. It has produced many internationals over the years, most recently Zanya Dahl and Shauna Frey both of whom are members of Old Alexandra squad at this tournament.
This is the second time this decade that Old Alexandra has represented Ireland in Europe. The last time was in Rome in 2000 where the club emerged as winners of the "B" Division of this tournament being Royal Antwerp in the final.
